Welcome to Farnham Science and Maths Centre

The one-stop place for all your child’s Maths and Science needs!

Vicky Hiorns

I’m a fully qualified Science teacher and Maths tutor, with over twenty years’ experience of teaching KS3 and KS4 students. I am an approachable, friendly and engaging teacher with good results and am proud to have been told many times that “you’re the best teacher I’ve ever had”! But don’t take my word for it – have a look at the lovely things current and recent customers have said about me in my testimonials section.

About me

I qualified as a Science teacher in 1996 and taught in schools in the West Midlands before moving to Surrey and teaching at a Farnham School. Since 2013 I have worked as a tutor for Surrey County Council, delivering KS3 and KS4 Science and Maths to children out of school. I have also taught private students in that time, principally at KS4 in preparation for Maths and Science GCSE.

About the sessions

I always plan my lessons to fit the individual needs of my students. I use a variety of resources including online programmes, short video clips, worksheets, textbooks and, when appropriate, I make use of practical resources.

Student

One-to-one or small groups

Most of my customers like the undiluted focus afforded by one-to-one lessons, but sometimes small groups of up to three students are preferred and can be accommodated.

Location

Usually lessons take place in my home in Farnham, but I will consider travelling to you (travel costs apply).

Home-educated students

Taking charge of all your child’s educational needs can be daunting for parents, and some like to hand over some of that responsibility to someone else. Unlike many tutors, I have daytime availability and so am bound to have a slot that will suit your child’s schedule.

Qualified and Unqualified teachers

At Farnham Science and Maths Centre we can also offer discounted lessons with A-level students. The students are currently studying Maths and Science at A-level and achieved top grades in their GCSEs in 2018 (the first cohort to sit the new 9 – 1 specification).
